5.2.2. STRATEGIC POSITION AND ACTION EVALUATION (SPACE) MATRIX

Space matrix is one of the strategic management tools used to analyze a company. This matrix can help a company decide what type of strategy is more convenient.

The axes of the SPACE Matrix represent two internal dimensions:

  • Financial Position[FP]

  • Competitive Position [CP]

And two external dimensions:

  • Stability position       [SP]

  • Industry position       [IP]

These four factors are perhaps the most important determinants of our overall strategic position.

Factors of the EFE and IFE Matrices should be considered in developing a SPACE Matrix.

The different types of strategy suggested are:

  • Conservative

  • Aggressive

  •  Defensive

  • Competitive
